Blockchain technology has huge potential to decentralize trust in supply chains and bring measurable benefits and value to the public and private sectors. To unlock this potential, the OriginTrail protocol was designed purposefully to tackle the main challenges which limit the fluent exchange of, and integrity of data in product supply chains. With supply chain data becoming increasingly fragmented, scalability and cost concerns of current decentralized solutions become evident.
OriginTrail is a unique solution allowing IT providers in supply chains to set up blockchain supported data sharing in multi-organizational environment. It helps them build transparency beyond the “one step down, one step up” traceability principle. Furthermore, it improves the integrity of product data and drives efficiencies for stakeholders. The first version of the OriginTrail solution is proven and currently deployed in the food industry. The upcoming open source version will be suitable to any product supply chain such as automotive, consumer goods, pharmaceutical etc.
Currently, there is a limited ability to share supply chain data across the entire supply chain that may lead to fraudulent behavior. OriginTrail will allow IT providers to set all their information on the blockchain to be easily analyzed and shared. This will bring decentralization, interoperability, data and information integrity and trust to supply chains.
OriginTrail uses the TRAC token to run the entire OriginTrail ecosystem. The system consists of a network of nodes (machines) running OriginTrail software clients. The token is used as a compensation between supply chain data producers and data consumers on one side, and the OriginTrail ecosystem holders on the other. The current version of OriginTrail utilizes Ethereum blockchain to provide proof of concept. In the future, the solution will provide interfaces to many different blockchains.
Intelligent and ambitious leaders of OriginTrail have multi-year experience in big technical and IT projects. The team looks strong and stable and it keeps growing. For example a new marketing team has joined recently. The company won a Walmart “Food Safety Innovation Spark Award” in Bejing, beating out 12 other teams.
The future of the project looks positive. Their node system is quite complex from the technical point of view, and if they get to the point of its reliable work, the idea may shoot.
